A devastating attack on several communities in Ondo State has left over 20 farmers dead and many more injured. The affected communities, including Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camp, were invaded by gunmen suspected to be armed herders in the Akure North Local Council Area.¹
The attack occurred at midnight over the weekend, with sources revealing that 14 dead bodies had been recovered from one of the communities. However, a farmer who witnessed the attack claimed that the death toll was much higher, with over 40 people killed.
The communities were reportedly deserted after the attack, with residents fleeing into the bush amid heavy gunfire. The police were deployed to the area on Sunday, and some bodies were retrieved, but the search for missing residents is ongoing.
The Regent of Ademekun Community, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, lamented the attack, stating that 14 people were killed in her community alone. She appealed to the state government and security agencies to come to the rescue of the communities.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident and assured that operatives have been mobilized to restore normalcy in the communities.
This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region, highlighting the need for increased security measures and community protection.
