FALANA SEEKS JUSTICE: N200 MILLION LAWSUIT AGAINST OGUN OBA FOR ALLEGED ASSAULT*

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has taken a bold step in seeking justice for Elder Areola Abraham Love, who was allegedly assaulted by Oba Semiu Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile Ifo, Ogun State. Falana has filed a N200 million lawsuit against the Oba, accusing him of violating Elder Love's fundamental human rights.¹

The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of Ogun State in Ota, alleges that Oba Ogunjobi and his agents brutally attacked Elder Love on January 21, 2025, slapping, punching, and beating him repeatedly. The attack was reportedly witnessed by a crowd, and Elder Love was forced to kneel and prostrate before the Oba and his agents.

Falana's lawsuit seeks not only financial compensation but also a public apology to be published in major newspapers, including The Punch, Vanguard, and Nigerian Tribune. The human rights lawyer has emphasized the egregious nature of the assault, labeling it a clear violation of human rights laws both domestically and internationally.

Oba Ogunjobi has been remanded in Ilaro prison, following his failure to meet the bail conditions given to him by an Ifo magistrate court, but later released on bail

The Oba was arraigned on three count charges of conspiracy, public assault, and conduct likely to breach peace.²

Falana's intervention in the case is a significant development, as it highlights the importance of holding those in power accountable for their actions.

The lawsuit serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and that the fundamental human rights of all citizens must be respected and protected.
